English Abstract

In this study a numerical model is developed for the design of thermoplastic (LDPE / Nylon6 / 6) composite sheet rubber pad forming process using finite element method (FEM) through (ANSYS 5.4) program code.

Three dimensional model of square cross section cup with dimensions (100*100) mm and (30) mm depth has been developed.

The thermoplastic composite sheets were made according to laminated theory of different kinds according to the angles of stick sequence of lamina with Longitudinal-direction of fiber as follows : 1.

(0 /45 /-45 / 90) 2.

(0 / 90) 3.

(45 / -45) 4.

(0 / 45 / -45 / 0) 5.

(0 / 0 / 0 / 0) Some parameters affecting on the composite sheet forming were studied by this numerical model, these parameters are : 1.

Temperature ranging from (23, 75, 110) °C 2.

Speed forming (185, 290, 480) mm / min 3.

Coefficient of friction (0.05, 0.1, 0.2).

Forming depth (6, 12, 18, 24, and 30) mm.

An approach has been developed to incorporate temperature and forming speed effect to estimate the initial properties for composite sheet without using coupled-thermal-displacement approach.

An instron machine was used to determinate the mechanical properties of materials which were used in this work.

The load cell was used to measure the punch force ; also the strain gauge was used to measure the sheet deformation.
