Abstract EN

This paper studied the relationship between the number and value of returned chiques and a number of independent variables: economic and social circumstances, procedures implemented by the Central Bank of Jordan and the commercial banks, and the punishment law.

In order to achieve the objectives; two questionnaires were distributed to a set of commercial banks and a sample of bank customers who deal with chiques.

A number of tours were also made to the Central Bank and to a group of commercial banks.

The results showed that there were statistical evidence supporting the existence of strong relationship between the mentioned independent variables and the number and value of returned chiques.

From these results a set of techniques were recommended to decrease such phenomenon.
