Abstract AR
Abstract EN
Nine landraces of okra were evaluated for stem, petiole and fruit color.
Crosses between the diverse parents for each character were made to study the inheritance of such traits in P1, P2, F1, F2, BC1 and BC2 generations.
Segregation of fruit color showed that red color is dominant over green and controlled by two independent genes, while only one gene with dominance effect is involved in controlling fruit red color over fruit with red patches, red patches over green and light cream over green.
Two genes with dominant epistasis were found to control red color over green in stem and petiole color.
Phenotypic correlation coefficient among fruit, stem and petiole color were significant suggesting that the same genes, linked genes or pleiotropic effect may be involved in controlling color in the stem, petiole and fruit.
