Abstract EN

This article investigates deviation in Emre’ Al-Qais’ poetry, which is an important stylistics feature that is concerned with the structure of poetry.

Deviation constitutes a significant feature in the discourse of poetry since it displays the poets’ creativity in expressing the deep connotations in the discourse of poetry and it also expresses the role of the listener.

Therefore, this study endeavours to discover the usefulness of deviation through exploring the opinions of both old and modern critics.

It also examines the various types of deviation in Emre’ Al Quais’ poetry such predication with regard to subject and predicate, deviation in modifiers and in genitives as well as structural deviation that is manifest in preposing and postposing certain elements.

These types of deviation were examined in a sample of Al-Qais’ poetry.

The results showed that the poet utilized these devices properly in a manner that shows the beauty of the language of poetry.
