Metaphor is one of the Arabic eloquence styles that has been studied by a great many scholars and critics in the past and in the present.

To leave Arabic aside, metaphor is a human eloquence style that was found in the literature of ancient nations because it is based on simile, the eldest means of eloquence humanity ever had.

In this research, we try to follow up this rhetorical device from a historical, artistic, and comparative perspectives.

We try through this research to tackle the numerous opinions concerning metaphor with the aim of stressing its role in expression and performance.
