Abstract EN

There are many benefits to study fashion from a historical perspective, as fashion measures the level of civilizations and the features of development.

It presents characteristics of beauty and indicates the social statues of individuals.

Each class is distinguished from other classes with a certain dresses especially in terms of dressing materials and colours, as well as the way of tailoring and dressing.

Fashion is integrated within human activities over his/ her life and varies by socio-economic, cultural, climatic and environmental conditions.

So the fashion of Sultans and senior statesmen are usually categorized by luxury and glorious models, unlike the fashion model of middle class.

From climate and environmental aspect, Andalusia is of special climate nature; especially the climate of coastal areas differs from that of inland, where temperature is very high during the summer and severe cold weather in winter.

There are a crystal clear sings in the available sources, referring to the presence of an oriental impacts on the model types and colours of clothing used in Andalusia.

The studies of garments from general and particular aspects are associated with specific categories and social ranks in the Andalusian society.

This investigation helps us to identify the raw materials from which these fashions were manufactured as mentioned, for instance by Al-Idrisi, Ibn Hayyan and Al-Maqqari from the news of Cordoba people, the capital of Umayyad Caliphate, where they were very famous for the good uniforms, clothing and craft.

I will shed the light in this research on the fashion of Andalusian society such as the fashion models of the ruling class, judges and scholars as well as the fashion of general class like the women clothing models, then paying more attention to the role of model and textile in Andalusia.

The topic of fashion model of clothing is one of the significant themes in the history of Islamic Arab civilization because it forms the element of our thoughtful and tangible heritage.

The idea of this topic is of importance being related to the traditions and customs, particularly at various occasions and festivals, simply because it determines the way of dressing these clothes and the variety of its colours.

Moreover, it is important to investigate this area because researchers and historians paid a little attention to this study with the exception for very little and separated pieces of research mentioned in the resources of history, and books of travelling Arabs geographists, as well as dictionaries that provide us with more information in terms of the origin of glossaries and its derivation that contain a variety of words, nouns and adjectives of various types of fashion models such as Kitab al-Bayan al-Maghrib and Al-ehata fee Akhbar Gurnata and Hilla Alsara.
