Abstract EN

The aim of this study was to investigate trends in secondary school students in Palestinian schools toward violence, and determine the difference in these trends, according to some quality characteristics, as well as to determine the relationship between attitudes towards violence and academic achievement.

The study used a descriptive approach based on the description of reality through the questionnaire that was designed for the purpose of the study, and enjoyed the significance of the validity and reliability which allow to be considered as suitable for the purposes of the study.

A cluster sample was selected of students in the Directorate of Ramallah and El-Bireh, with total number of (394) male and female students.

The results showed that the estimates of students' attitudes toward the three area of violence were negative (lower than 60%), and the trends of violence towards administration and teachers was the highest, followed by violence against students, and finally the lowest level of the trends were for violence towards property.

The results showed that there are significant differences of high school students about violence according to gender, place of residence, and the order congenital in the family , and that the trends of high school students in Palestinian schools toward violence increasing with the progress of the student in his school on all areas of violence included in the study.

The results also showed a statistically significant correlation at the level (α≤0.05) between the trends toward violence and the level of academic achievement, as the value of Pearson's correlation coefficient between them was (-0.27).
