Abstract EN

The present study is aimed at: (a) identifying the value system of students at Zarka Public University; (b) investigating the effect of academic level and gender on the aspects of this value system; (c) identifying the amount of variance that some demographic variables can explain from the total variance of the aspects of the value system.

To achieve this, the value-matrix scale was administered to a random cluster sample of (560) Zarka Public University students.

Results of the study indicated that religious values ranked first in the value-svstem hierarchy of students, then came: Sociaf values, cognitive values, political values, aesthetic values, and economic values, respectively.

Results also revealed statistically significant difference between male and female students in the degree of preference of the following values: Social, cognitive, political, aesthetic, and economic values.

Findings also indicated statistically significant differences in the degree of preference of religious and economic values due to academic level.

Finally, results revealed a number of demographic variables that contribute in explaining the variance in value aspects.

To illustrate, the following variables: Family income, gender, and father’s vocation contributed in explaining the variance in social values.

However, the variables of: Student academic level, family size, father’s education, gender, accommodation, and family income, contributed in explaining the variance in religious values.

Whereas, variables of gender, academic level, and Tawjihi grade, contributed in explaining ihe variance in economic values.

Gender contributed in explaining the variance in cognitive values.

Also, gender and father's education contributed in explaining the variance in each of political and aesthetic values.
