Abstract AR
Abstract EN
he present study deals with the formation of Sherm El-Maiya embayment.
Sherm El-Maiya is bounded by slightly indurate sandstone ridges, with lenses and pockets of conglomerate, derived from the nearby basement rocks.
Sherm El-Maiya area was affected by right lateral (dextral) strike-slip fault extending N25W-S25E (the main trend of Red Sea).
Three types of joints were observed including: Extension joints, shear joints, and hybrid joints.
Many hybrid joints contain secondary minerals.
Detailed field observations show that Sherm El-Maiya seems to be a structurally controlled bay and the observed trend N25W-S25E is the oldest.
