Abstract EN

The health status of selected varieties of stone fruits and grapevines was evaluated during the period of 1995–1997 by using DAS- ELISA.

A total of 360 stone fruit and grapevine varieties were tested (1944 trees and vines/grafted seedlings/rootstocks) for the presence of five viruses on stone fruits (PDV, PNRSV, PPV, ApMV, and ACLSV) and three viruses on grapevine (GLRaV-I, GLRaV-III and GFLV) under natural infection.

A total of 118 stone fruit (59.2% of tested plants) and 92 of grapevine varieties (69.3% of tested vines) were found to be virus-free.

Except for mahaleb, plum and almond, all stone fruits including apricot, peach, nectarine and sweet cherry were infected with five viruses.

PDV was found in 18.8% of tested trees, PNRSV in 14.95%, ApMV in 12.5%, PPV in 9.3%, and ACLSV in 4.6% of total tested trees.

Meanwhile, GLRaV-III was found in 16.0% of tested vines, GLRaV-I in 15.1% and GFLV in 4.8% of total tested vines.

The sanitary selection is an effective approach which allowed the selection of many varieties that are free from the major viruses
