Abstract EN
This research traces three lines of verses in the old Arabic sources from the diverse approaches of critics, rhetoricians and others, who studied and analyzed them.
In the first section, the lines that were documented and checked were attributed to Kuthayir Azzah, apart from other poets, because these lines were found in consistent contexts in his poetry.
In the second section, the researcher finds out that three lines had been reread by the ancients until consecutive readings formed what could be called new readings.
These lines serves as an example of the triumph of form over content, and at other times, as triumph of content over form.
Some served as demonstrations of prosody, which is exemplified in reticence and symmetry, while other critics considered figures of speech.
Thus, it could be said that the ancients readings of these verses have sketched the features of the developments of Arabic criticism and rhetoric in some of their aspects throughout the ages.
