Abstract EN

The aim of this study is to investigate the students' opinions towards the seriousness of the crimes in the Jordanian socity.

It also examines the role of the demographic variables: sex, monthly income, the educational level of the subjects' father and mother on their responses.

In order to do this, a random sample is chosen from Jordanian students of Mu'tah University with exclusion of graduate students, evening studies and foreign students.

The sample consists of (371) male and female subjects.

The questionnaire was administered by the researcher in the classes.

The findings of the study indicate that the most serious crimes are: moral, violence, drugs, and robbery.

The demographic variables have some impact on the subjects' responses.

Finally some suggestions were presented.
