Abstract EN

The present investigation aimed at constructing an attitudinal scale toward psychology, measuring the attitudes of Yarmouk University students toward psychology, awl identifying sex differences m the attitudes toward psychology.

Six key elements were identified, of (55) items each.

The modified scale was administered to (960) Yarmouk University students in order to validate the scale.

The final scale consisted of (45) valid items.

Upon performing the principal components factor analysis with varimax rotation on the (45) items, five factors were found to account for (58.3%) of die variance.

The fetors wen;: Attitudes toward getting knowlledge in psychology, attitudes toward the importance and usage of psychology, attitudes toward having a job related to psychology, attitudes toward psychologists, and attitudes toward research in psychology.

With respect to the reliability of the scale, Cronobach Alpha was found to be (0 92).

After the analysis of students’ responses on the scale, results revealed positive attitudes of Yarmouk University students toward psychology.

The results also indicated that girts possess higher positive attitudes (general attitudes and the five Factors) toward psychology, than boys.

Results were interpreted in terms of social and cultural factors.
