Considered a pioneering foundational theory in the history of the philosophy of confession, Darwish investigates Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s confessional theory and its relevance to the Arab context.

In his study, Darwish interrogates the contemporary weight of Rousseau’s philosophical theory paying particular attention to two of his infamous theories – confession and justice.

The study is divided in two parts: in the first part, the author examines Rousseau’s relation to the philosophy of confession, while in the second he clarifies the extent to which Rousseau’s philosophy is present in modern and contemporary Arab thought.

In doing so the author highlights the critical importance of Rousseau’s valuable contribution to the philosophy of confession and elucidates why such a philosophy is critical from the standpoint of the Arab reader and the Arab context.
