Abstract EN

Because of the educational experts’ calls for providing educational alternatives that are compatible with the developments in technology as a logical response to the challenges arising from the rapid ؛ scientific and technological change in the higher education institutions, the research aims to identify the level of applying virtual classes technique in Arab Open University in Jordan from the students’ perspective and to identify the weak and strong aspects, in addition to reveal the possible opportunities and threats in applying virtual classes technique.

A random sample consisted of 115 male and female students was selected.

To achieve the research’s objectives, the researchers adopted the descriptive approach and the statistical one through using a questionnaire and analyzing its data according to Statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) and SWOT method.

The most significant results were as follows : 1) The level of applying virtual classes technique in Arab Open University from the perspective of the students was moderate with (66.99 %).

2) Physical readiness of virtual classrooms came in the first rank with (71.66 %) followed by the educational practices with (65.66 %), while the skill of using virtual classes came last with (63.66 %).

3) There were strong and weak points in the level of applying the virtual classes ; strong points represented by the represented by the university’s lack of physical readiness and preparation of providing virtual library and laboratories.

4) There were possible opportunities in the level of applying virtual classes technique represented by : downloading PowerPoint files and transition between the slides smoothly and easily, however there were possible threats represented by difficulty in employing the webcam and students’ discussion management.

In light of the results, the research recommended the following : 1-The necessity to design programs of virtual classes in Arabic to allow the academic staff and the students to deal easily and smoothly with the virtual classes.

2-The necessity of providing the instruments and the equipments as virtual laboratories and the library to achieve realistic practice of virtual classes.

3-The necessity of employing the requirements of virtual classes in the curriculum and activities of Arab Open University.
