Abstract EN

This research aims to define the “Octobass”, the larger version of the double bass in violin family of musical instrument.

The research consists of two main sections; the first one is the theoretical framework: which includes a review of previous research on the same topic.

The second one is the descriptive framework : which was devoted to the description of the musical instrument of Octobass, explain the requirements of its appearance and a historical overview.

In addition, a detailed information of this instrument's dimensions, tuning, playing range, playing methods.

As this section focuses on this instrument's role in the field of composition, It's also indicates locations of some remaining instruments, names of this instrument's makers and some musical compositions where Octobass was used.

Finally, the results and recommendations, bibliography and research summery.
