Abstract AR
Abstract EN
This paper uses five cross sections of newly released Household Income, Expenditure and Consumption Survey data to determine whether there has been feminization of poverty in Egypt during the last 15 years.
The period of study is one during which poverty as a whole has been increasing, and major economic, social and political changes took place.
Results suggest that poverty is more prevalent among female headed households when compared to male headed households, but that married couple households are in fact poorer than both for most of the years under study.
The rural-urban divide is also a very important factor determining poverty
