Abstract EN

This research deals with the Egyptian Christians in the light of Aljabart,s history : Ajaib al athar fi attrajim wa akhbar for the attention it gives to the deeds of common people and the significance it has for the social life in Egypt.

The study discuss conditions of the of the Egyptian Christians under the rule of the Ottoman sultans and their officials of Mamluks , who posed as protectors of Islam and Muslims , in order to gain legitimacy among Muslims.

The French campaign ( 1213-1216/ 1798-1801) improved social and economical statues of Christians as they worked as translator’s for the campaign, members of divans and participated in its military efforts.

When the French Campaign left Egypt many of the Christians left for France fearing revenge by Muslims but Their status has been improved during Muhammad Ali Reign as he depended on them in administering the financial matters in Egypt.

The study also dealt with the relations among Christians themselves: their properties, conversion to Islam, the areas in which they lived in Ciaro addition to their most prominent Masses, and their most important professions.
