In times of crises and internal issues, the mass media and communication are considered as one of the most important sources the public can rely on to get information and news, and they have two roles; the first one is positive and it ensures complete and balanced coverage to the crisis, however the second one is negative and it distorts the facts and provides incomplete treatment to the event far from objectivity and credibility.

The Algerian press has always been present in various internal crises, but this presence was sometimes positive and negative in other times as well ,and one of the events that occurred recently is the exploitation of the shale gas which agitated the public opinion and pushed the population of the south to do protests against this exploitation for the sake of preserving the environment and protecting its water resources, that’s why we’ll highlight in this article the performance of the Algerian press depending on the model of the daily newspaper “El Khabar” and analyze its content on the shale gas file and its effectiveness in the management of this internal crisis, therefore we’ll ask the following question: How did El Khabar newspaper manage the exploitation of the shale gas file in Algeria?
