الملخص EN

The present research paper is a correlation study that aimed at investigating the correlation between strategic reading (SR) and reading comprehension skills (RCS) in English language for first year secondary school students.

The study sample consisted of 72 students from El-Ramla El-Moshtaraka Secondary School in Benha, Qalyoubia Govemorate, Egypt.

Tools of the study were a strategic reading questionnaire (SRQ), strategic reading interview (SRI) strategic reading chccklist with think-aloud protocol (SRCTP) and reading comprehension test (RCT) prepared by the researchers.

They were applied to students; then, Pearson correlation coefficient between the study sample's level of EFL strategic reading comprehension skills was calculated.

Results showed that there was positive correlation between strategic reading and reading comprehension skills in English language.

That is, developing First year secondary school students’ strategic reading positively affected their EFL reading comprehension skills.

The higher students' scores in EFL strategic reading, the higher their scores in reading comprehension skills and vice versa
