Abstract EN

This study aims to identify the summer and winter touristic destination in the basin of Beesh valley in southwest Saudi Arabia, using Multi-Criteria Evaluation Method on Raster Models in Geographical Information systems (GIS).

This work is considered as an application to the spatial analysis formulation and as an investigation to the ability of digital maps to build accurate models capable to conduct tourism studies according to the availability of attracting landmarks in the basin of Beesh valley.

The data used in this study was provided by the French satellite (SPOT) where the spatial resolution was 7.5 meters and the digital elevation model was of the type (ASTER GDEM) with spatial resolution of 30 meters.The study used applied and theoretical methodologies, conducted multiple processes to digital elevation models and satellite images, and applied the Multi-Criteria Evaluation Method on the Raster Models of the landmarks including vegetation, terrain and gradient as well as earth resources and valleys.

This study produced for the first time, thematic digital maps and suitability maps for the basin of the valley Beesh, which has a legacy of cultural heritage and attractive infrastructure.

Recommendations are the revitalization and promotion of tourism throughout the year in the basin.

It is also emphasized on the need to preserve the natural environment, to reduce pollution on vegetation and animals, and to continuously evaluate the cultural, intellectual, and artistic aspects of this region
