Abstract EN

Prolixity is considered to be a special quality that is conceived by all languages, yet the way in which to realize this property is basically different from one language to another (Reeston ,1968 : 112) The study aims at showing ( prolixity In Greeting ) | alesha:b fi: asalam au ateheyah | based on some phrases of Greeting ( i.e to welcome some body when you meet him ; to say hello to somebody : He greeted me with a friendly smile ) to make a clear distinction between ( SIA ) and English .The hypothesis is to let the learner know something about this topic and conclude one of the most important characteristics of English , that he never heard before by giving different views for different writers .

The role of the language gets prominent to be in charge of exchanging courtesies before everything to be started (Bolinger, 1965 : 22 ).

Gyorgi (1990 : 35 ) remarks that studying the differences between two languages is much more important than to study the similarities.

This can enable the researcher to find out new things which could benefit learners .

Thus, the study will be dealing with " prolixity in Greeting " based on selecting five phrases of Greeting to show this quality in both Arabic and English .In conclusion , the study discusses some phrases of Greeting and to relate them with " prolixity " and see the big differences between Arabic and English considering that" prolixity " is present in both , but can have different realizations.
