The study aimed at identifying the importance cognitive competencies and skills is for teachers of autistic children in Jordan according to variables of gender, academic qualification, or their interaction.

Forty five teachers forking at (5) special education centers for autistic children in Amman during the P‘ semester of the school year (2010-2011) participated in le study.

To achieve the aims of the study, a list of knowledge competen- cies and required skills for teachers of autistic children were developed Recording to the international standards issued by the Council of Excep- Idnal Children (CEC).

The results indicated that the teachers’ estimations tiothe importance of having knowledge competencies and required skills for teachers o f autistic children were low, whereas their estimations to the degree of having these competencies and skills were moderate.

It also rel^ vealed that there were no effect to variables o f gender, academic qualification, and their interaction in the teachers’ estimations of the importance of paving knowledge competencies and required skills for teachers of autistic children, and showed an effect of the gender variable in favor of female teachers who estimated the degree of havmg these competencies and skills higher than male teachers; whereas the results did not show an effect for academic qualification or the interaction between gender and academic Qualification on the teachers’ estimation of the degree of having these competencies and skills
