The Algerian parliament has introduced a new agency, responsible for monitoring the performance of public and private companies working in the sector of water.

This entity known as “the regulatory authority of the public service of water " , is organized by the decree n° 08-303 decree dated 27 September 2008 determining the functions and rules of organization and functioning of the public services of the water regulatory.

This Decree is a first, since that he speaks for the first time in the regulation of the relationship between the institution in charge of the management of the market of water on the one hand, and different clients on the other hand.

This organization ensures the proper functioning of the water utilities, and ensures compliance of franchisees, their obligations, as well as the study of the grievances of customers or users of water utilities, and the formulation of appropriate recommendations.
