Abstract EN

The main objective of the study is to identify the extent social workers in Omani schools are aware of the «Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The study adopted a descriptive approach, and the instrument for data collection was a questionnaire to identify the cognitive aspect associated with the awareness of social workers of the Convention.

The study sample consisted of four hundred (400) male and female social workers in five educational provinces, are: Muscat , Batinah South, Batinah North, Al Sharqiya North, and Al Dakhiliya.

The most important results are: the social workers have not studied any course related to the Convention on the Rights of the Child; they were provided bulletins on Convention by the Ministry of Education; they had not received training related to these rights; the vast majority of social workers are unaware of the existence of the Convention on the rights of the Child; the study showed that most of the answers of the respondents illustrate the weakness of awareness among social workers of children>s rights.

Finally, the study recommended a set of proposals for raising the level of awareness concerning the academic and professional preparation social workers working in the schools of Oman .
