The study aimed to evaluation the institutional digital repositories of Saudi universities in terms of coverage, research, service, policies, organize information, access, control mechanism to access, evaluate the use, the use software and extract out a list of standards that can be relied on when evaluating the digital repositories.
The study used the content analysis methodology to reach it's goals by studies about the subject.
The sample of the study is limited on reviewing digital repositories ''OpenDORA'' and "DORA" The most important findings are as the following: the biggest digital repository in the study, in terms of the number of source, is King Abdullah University of Science and Technology(KAUST) Repository as it contains more than 21347 source.
The absence of the most important policies that should be available in most digital repositories.
King Abdullah University of Science and Technology(KAUST) Repository is distinguished in most of the evaluation points than the rest of the other digital repositories, where it was the best in the number of documents, the diversity of forms of sources, diversity in multiple search capabilities, provision of services and the presence of policies.
The study has a number of recommendations, the most important are: All Saudi universities should establish digital repositories to serve the research, scientific communication and achieve the free to information.
The universities should put and develop policies for digital repositories that control the process of saving, preservation, quality and ensure copyright of the author.
They should link and connect the personal pages of the authors and faculty members to the digital repositories of the university which they belong to in order to put and save the content with the creation of a unified page that combines all digital repositories of Saudi universities in on page for easy access, and allow the possibility of unified search in all repositories .
