Abstract EN

This study aims at identifying the nature of the relationship between democracy and economic development, by offering an analytical descriptive study of the cases of the South Korea and Taiwan experience for the period 1970 - 1995.

During this study, we analyzed the process of economic development, democratic transformation, and democratic developments of the two countries.

During our assessment of the case study, we have used the GDP statistics, and the evaluations of “Freedom House organization” for the state of democracy in all of South Korea and Taiwan.

The results of the study showed that, whenever the rates of economic development have risen in a state, led to push the democratization process and the building of democracy in that state.

This is because, it is difficult to build democracy in a state without completion of economic progress, which represents a necessary component to build the democratic, parliamentary, and partisan institutions, and achieve the democratic participation.
