Abstract EN

The development of maps produce has gained people's attention since the ancient ages whether at the national or international levels.

The Babylonian map, which was drawn in (2300 BC), is the oldest specimens found in the world.

Since then several kinds of maps have been produced such as the descriptive map, which is based on field measurements and digital maps in which modern technology is employed.

The Arabs and Muslims have played a significant role in the development of mapmaking.

This can be demonstrated by repairing the maps of ancient nations and introducing original innovations in the art of maps based on astronomy and translation from Greek، Persian and Indian into Arabic.

Mapmaking reached the peak during the reign of Al Mansour (185 Hijri) which is called the Classical Approach.

Al Balkhi، Al Estakhri، Ibn Hawqal and Al Idrisi were among its pioneers.
