The Importance of studying the relationship between labor productivity and wages in modem economies stems from, among other things, the often observed wide discrepancies between these two variables in the public sector as compared to the private one.

To measure the relationship between these two variables in the case of Kuwait, the paper utilizes a simple approach consisting of establishing the relationship between the partial labor productivity and the average wage of laborer in various economic activities on one hand; and the labor unit cost and the average wage on the other.

The paper outlines the main deficiencies of the data available in Kuwait for the purpose of labor productivity measurement and argues for the use of data from establishments surveys and national accounts statistics as the most reliable data in Kuwait.

The results show that while the relationship between the three variables at hand seems to be consistent in the private sector, it fails to be so in the case of the public sector.
