Abstract EN

This experiment was conducted at the poultry farm of Animal Resource Department / College of Agriculture University of Baghdad during the period from 22/7/2007 to 22/10/2007 to study the effect of using the locally plant protein concentrate and imported animal protein concentrate in layings diets on some eggs quality traits under summer rearing conditions.

One hundred and twenty commercial laying hens (Lohmann White strain) at age of 24 weeks were used in this experiment.

They were randomly distributed into five treatments each treatment contained four replicates, and each replicate consisted of six hens.

The birds fed the experimental diets which were as following:-treatment of control (T1) : contained 0.0% locally plant protein concentrate + 100% imported animal protein concentrate.

treatment (T2) : contained 25% locally plant protein concentrate + 75% imported animal protein concentrate.

treatment (T3) : contained 50% locally plant protein concentrate + 50% imported animal protein concentrate.

treatment (T4) : contained 75% locally plant protein concentrate + 25% imported animal protein concentrate.

treatment (T5) : contained 100% locally plant protein concentrate + 0.0 imported animal protein concentrate.

Treatment (T2) gave the highest egg weight (59.02 gr) as compared with other treatments during the production period (28-30 wk of age).

Significant differences among treatments were found in albumin hight during the production periods (24-26, 28-30 and 34-36 wks of age).

There was a significant difference among treatments in mean value of haugh unit during the different egg production periods; as well as significant differences among the different egg production periods were found for all treatments in this comparison.

No significant differences in means of yolk height were found among treatments during the whole production periods, while T5 was superior than other treatments at (32-34 wks of age).

There was no significant difference among treatments in yolk diameter during the different egg production periods, except the 32-34 and 34-36 weeks of egg production periods.

Significant differences in yolk weight were found among treatments during 28-30 and 32-34 weeks of age.

No significant differences in yolk index were found among the treatments during the different egg production indervals except for the production period 32-34 weeks of age in which T5 showed the highest value.

Significant differences in relative yolk weight were found among treatments during the first egg production period (24-26 wks ) and the 6th period (34-36 wks).

Significant differences in shell thickness were found among treatments through out the production periods 24-26 , 26-28 and 30-32 weeks of age in which T2-T5 showed best eggs shell thickness as compared to the eggs of control-group.

Shell weight differed significantly from other treatments at 24-26 weeks of age where as T2 gave the highest shell weight in this comparison (5.37 gm), however T3 gave the highest shell weight (5.37 and 5.76 gm) during the periods 28-30 and 30-32 weeks of age respectively.

Significant differences in relative shell weight were found among treatments at 24-32 weeks of age.

However no significant differences were found among treatments throughout other production periods.
