Abstract EN

During the last two decades Arabic region has experienced a large urban development in order to keep up with the continuous population growth.

This has necessitated the expansion of desert areas and provided the associated services.

And this led us to make attention to sustainability of the urban growth in that area.

The search objectively attempts reaching sustainable residential communities in the Arabic region which marked by a hot-arid climatic.

The research methodology was used is relied on two parts represented in the theoretical part that tries to devise environmental standard and principle to use it in planning nowadays residential areas.

By studying the characteristics of urban zones and planning in the traditional Arab city, this methods of interaction with the environment, The second part is about application of these principles and standards in planning modern residential communities while giving full considerations to modern technology in order to avoid any conflict with the environmental values of the city.

The paper also presents a modern example of residential compound that was planned in Syrian Arab Republic that contained main concepts to integrate traditional urban design and modern science.

Finally the research ends with results and recommendations to achieve its objectives, and opens new horizons to planners.
