Abstract EN

The goalkeepers whether in football or handball need to specifications and capabilities, whether mental or motor which must be available at the goalkeeper and, therefore, the goal of research was to identify the differences in some of the mental and motor abilities between advanced football and handball goalkeepers, and the researcher assumed that there were significant differences in some mental and motor abilities between advanced football and handball goalkeepers.

The researcher used the descriptive approach with the method of comparative studies.

The research sample consisted of (16) goalkeepers in the provinces of the southern region (Basra - Dhi Qar - Maysan) divided on (8) Football goalkeepers and (8) handball goalkeepers, as well as (6) guards the researcher conducted exploratory experiment on them.

After the completion of the tests, appropriate statistical treatments were used to obtain the results and then the results were reviewed, analyzed and discussed.

The researcher reached conclusions, the most important one was that there were significant differences between the two research groups (football goalkeepers and handball goalkeepers) in the focus of attention and kinetic flexibility and in favor of handball goalkeepers, and in the motor sensory perception and in favor of soccer goalkeepers.

It was also reached to the lack of significant differences between the two groups (football goalkeepers and handball goalkeepers) in motor response and motor agility and compatibility.

The most important recommendation was that emphasizing on the development of mental and motor abilities of football and handball goalkeepers because of their prominent role in the mastery of skill performance requirements.
