Abstract EN

The present study was condutded to determine the concentration of Cu and Pb metals in water and three species of aquatic plants , Ceratophyllum demersum , Phragmites australis and Bacoba monnieria in Shatt Al-Arab river and known efficieny of these plants to accumulate these metals .

four stations were selected to collect samples from Shatt Al-Arab river , frist (Al- Sharresh) , second (Al-Sendibad Island) , third (Al- Salehia) , and forth (Al-Ameia Region) near Abu-Floos port .

samples had been collected monthly started from January , 2014 to Desember , 2014 .

concentration averages of Cu and Pb in water were (21.63 , 35.43) μg/L.

respectively while concentration average of Cu and Pb in aquatic plants as mentioned above were (43.54 , 32.35 , 19.24) and (39.86 , 33.05 , 27.23) μg/g dry weight respectively.

Bioconcentration factor (BCF) of Cu and Pb metals for aquatic plants (2.55 , 2.03 , 0.90) and (1.35 , 1.11 , 0.95) respectively .

The present study was showed that aquatic plants were more accumulation to Cu than Pb and the aquatic plant C.
