Abstract EN

This study highlights the importance role of media departments in the Palestinian universities in supporting the Palestinian media work, it focuses on the difficulties that face media students and the heads of media departments, the extent to which it affects the learning process, and its negative effect on the media students during their studies and after graduation.

The study aims to discover the attitudes of media students and heads of their departments in Palestinian universities towards the theoretical and learning difficulties, difficulties related to technical and human factors, and, difficulties that face students during the trainings they receive in media organizations.

To acheive the goals and objective of this study, the following questions shall be answered: What are the attitudes of media students and heads of Media Departments in Palestinian universities towards the difficulties they face? Sub-questions:  What are the attitudes of media students and heads of Media Departments in Palestinian universities towards the difficulties in the theoretical field?  What are the attitudes of the students and heads of Media Departments towards difficulties in the learning process?  What are the attitudes towards the practical, technical and human difficulties?  What are the attitudes towards the problems faced during the internships in journalistic organizations? The research is conducted based on a questionnaire distributed to 175 media students in the following universities: Hebron University, Al-Najah National University, Bethlehem university, Al-Quds University and Birzeit University.

After analyzing the results of the questionnaire an interview was held with the heads of media departments in Palestinian universities.

The study concludes the following major results.

First, media students have strong responses towards the difficulties that they face.

The main concern of the students is related to the problems they face during the learning process and their last concern is about the practical, technical and human issues.

Second, the heads of media departments agreed on the existence of difficulties in teaching media in Palestinian universities, most notably is the shortage of equipment required for the teaching process.
