Abstract EN

The french translator and translation scholar has proposed a reading grid to analyse prose translation in general and novel translations in particular.

Through this reading grid, Berman aims at deconstructing what he calls « The system of destruction » of texts which occurs during the translation process and which consists in « thirteen deforming tendencies ».

This article aims at presenting one of these elements, which is Clarifiction, by analysing and comparing three novels by the Nobel Prize winner Naguib Mahfouz and their french translations.

The analysis will show the effect of such a practice on the texture of fictional prose and that this translational behaviour transcends the individual translator because they are rather rooted in an ideology of writing and translation.
