الملخص EN

The epidemiology, the pathogencity and the possible ways of treatment of Pasteurella multocida (P.

multocida) infection as a primary respiratory pathogen in broiler chicken farms in different places in Gharbia Goernorate were investigated during the period of 2011-2014.For this purpose bacteriological examination of lung, trachea, heart, liver, brain, kidney, joint, intestine, spleen and bone marrow samples collected from 200 diseased, 30-41-day-old commercial broiler chickens suffered from respiratory disorders, diarrhea, growth retardation and mortality with pneumonia, pericarditis, airsaculitis and enlarged liver with multiple whitishyellow foci.

Bacteriological examination of swabs from trachea, lung , liver, heart , spleen and bone marrow revealed Gram negative, non motile, bipolar stained rod-shaped organisms which were commonly isolated from lung, liver, heart, spleen, trachea and bone marrow.

The isolation trials revealed 14 P.

multocida positive cases with an incidence (7%).

Serotyping of the isolated strains proved that all the field P.

multocida isolates were belonged to P.

multocida Serotypes A1 and A4.The clinicopathological features and re-isolation of the organism from experimentally infected chickens were recorded.

The results of the in vitro antibiotic sensitivity test revealed that the isolated strains were highly sensitive to Sulphamethoxazole– trimethoprime, Amoxycillin and Doxycillin, considerably sensitive to Chloramphenicol and Streptomycin but resistant to Neomycin, Erythromycin, Ampicillin, Enrofloxacin, Lincomycin, Tetracyclin, Oxytetracyclin, Spiramycin, Penicillin, Clindamycin and Colistensulphate.
