Abstract EN

This study aimed to gain knowledge of the role of the academic supervisor in improving the quality of theses and essays and the use of those essays in serving researchers and policy makers.

That was achieved through the use of a questionnaire as a data collection tool on the study sample which was made up of students and academic staff in Naif Arab University for Security Sciences.

The number of questionnaires which could be analyzed reached 138.

The study used the 'T' test for one sample, the ANOVA test 'F', the FSD test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and some descriptive statistics.

The study revealed the presence of the clear and effective role of the academic supervisor in choosing the titles of a thesis or essay, and that the supervisor plays a clear role in the formation the introduction of the study and the discussion the problem it attempts to solve and its dimensions, and in the writing the content of the thesis in general way.

The role of the supervisor is especially important in examination committees and in using students' theses and their essays in serving policy makers and researchers.

As the academic caliber of the supervisor increases their role becomes evidentlyclear and effective.

Based on the results of the statistical analysis the two researchers recommend the necessity of taking into account the field of expertise and academic caliber of the supervisor when assigning them as a supervisor over theses and essays.
