Abstract EN

This descriptive study seeks to shed light on the current directing exper-iment of theatre directors in Saudi Arabia in order to comprehend the circumstances of theatre directing and the main obstacles that Saudi theatre directors face as well as their suggestions for better future to theatre directing in Saudi theatre.

The sample of this study consists of two groups of Saudi theatre directors; the first one is (8) Saudi directors from Riyadh and the second is (6) Saudi directors from Alahsa.

The study, following the procedure of qualitative research, utilizes a focus group interviews for obtaining and collecting the data.

The main results are; the two groups agree on the idea that the status of Saudi theatre does not look good; the increase of theatre performances with the lack of quality.

In addition, the sample considers the following as the main obstacles that face their work as theatre directors; (1) The absence of interest and financial support from theatre institutions.

(2) The lack of opportunity for training theatre directors.

(3) The low level of theatre awareness among actors and people working in the field of theatre.

(4) The poor movement of theatre in schools.
