Abstract EN

The study aims to identify the differences inemotional intelligence between academically outstanding and ordinary students and its relation to the variables of gender and age.

To achieve the objectives of the study, a sample of seventh and tenth grade students, aged between (13-17) years was randomly chosen, among both theacademically outstanding and ordinary students; bringing the total number of the sample individuals to (505) male and female students.

The Bar-On Model of Emotional Intelligence, whichcomprises (60) items, was used..

The results show that no differences are found between academically outstanding and ordinary students on the scale as a whole, except for the dimension of adaptability in favor of academically distinguished students .

Differences are found between male and female academically distinguished students on the scale as a whole, on the dimensions of interpersonal competence, adaptability, general mood and positive impression in favor of female students.

Differences are found between seventh and tenth grade of academically distinguished students on the scale as a whole, on both dimensions of interpersonal competence, and general mood in favor of tenth grade students.

In light of the results of the study, the researcher recommends introducing emotional intelligence educational programs in school curricula and counseling programs.
