Toward enhancing the quality assurance in the tourism education : a case study from Jordan

The tourism and hospitality industry is considered to be one of the important social, economic and cultural motivators in the Arab world and there is a great potential to develop this industry in the region.

However, improving the different aspects of tourism and hospitality industry is mainly based on improving the nature and scope of tourism education and ensuring the quality of tourism education systems.

Despite of the importance of tourism education in the general education system in the Arab world, as a whole, and Jordan, in particular, little attention has been paid to the implementation of quality assurance programs in the tourism education systems in the region.

Thus, the main purpose of this study is to explore the importance of quality control in tourism education systems.

In addition, it introduces a case study focusing on tourism quality assurance program at the Department of Tourism Management at the University of Jordan in Amman.

The study found that assuring the quality of tourism education could be achieved by following the national standards of quality control and applying the international Tourism Educational Quality systems.

The outcomes of such process have helped provide high quality educational programs and experiences for local, regional and international students.
