Abstract EN

Many of the fathers and mothers depends on corporal punishment as a mechanism for the socialization and education of their children influenced by traditional cultural background.

They are ignoring the consequences that will show on the child for the rest of his life - on his social interaction, on his psychological and physical health.

In this poster, we tried to focus on this phenomenon of violence against children.

Even though there is lot of international laws and legislations against it, it is still common between parents to use beating as a way to educate their children.

We conducted practical studies and research that tried to find out how this phenomenon is spread in our society and the reasons for it, the level of awareness of parents of its danger, and the consequences that it has on children.

The research showed that mothers usually use beating of their children without differentiating between girls and boys.

They beat them after they lose patience and after there is a failure of all kind of dialogue to get a positive response from the child, either to stop them or to make them do something.

According to the statements of the mothers, they make sure that they do not use heavy beating which could result in fractures or bruising.

On the other hand, fathers use violence less frequently.

They use it as a way of guidance and education, but the beating is harder and harsher than the beating of the mothers.

Fathers’ violence against their children is a result of dealing with life pressures; on the other side, they consider beating as an efficient and quick fix for dealing with their children.
