Based on the natural characteristics, economic and social components, this study aimed to address and analyze a range of demographic characteristics of AL Muwaggar District during the period (1979-2014), as well as to create a digital geographic database of the population using the functions of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

To achieve the objectives, both of them descriptive method, to describe the evolution of thedemographic characteristics of the population, and analytical approach, to analyze demographic data, were used.

The study results showed that there are changes and developments in the demographic characteristics in terms of population growth, distribution, population density, quality, age and education during the study period.

The annual increment in the study area was (2.26%) during the study peroid, where the number of popultion in 2014 is 39950, compared with 9210 in 1979.

The results also showed that the natural, economic and social factors are the most important parameters in the evolution of the demographic characteristics in the study area.

Moreover, the applications of GIS technology has the ability to analyze and describe the demographic characteristics of the study area with high accuracy.
