Abstract EN

This study aimed to examine the economic crises that faced the Umayyad State in Andalusia, and understand their causes as well as the role of the state in treating its consequences and prevent their occurrence.

This study showed that many severe economic crises affected Andalusia during the Umayyad period, despite the diversity in climate and the abundant water resources.

These crises caused a large number of deaths and emigration of some of the population outside of the country, leaving negative impacts on the Andalusian economy.

The importance of the current study stems from its tackling an important era of the Islamic economic history and can be beneficial to today’s situation and requirements.

All of this led to alienation of the major components of the state against the Umayyad rulers and contributed to the successive revolutions which led to more crises.

Lessons derived from these crises and their solutions can be applied to a similar current situation taking into account the current time’s requirements.
