Abstract EN

The aim of this study was to identify the demographic characteristics of the users of the resources and services of Zarqa Municipality Public Library, the level of their use and the purpose of usage.

The study also intended to identify the degree of satisfaction with the location of the library, available information resources, services provided, and the level of staff collaboration, in the light of the following variables, sex, age, educational level and employment.

The survey method was applied for this study.

The research population consisted of (130) users who visited the library during the last week of June2016.

A questionnaire was distributed to all of them.

102 usable questionnaires were returned yielding a response rate of 78%.

The results indicate that the number of visitors was too small compared with the number of inhabitants of Zarqa City.A higher percentage of females than males responded to this survey.

Educational level of the majority of the respondents (70.6%) was high school education or below.

The majority of respondents aged 18-40 (62.7%).

More than half of respondents (53.9 (%were students.

The study also revealed that more than half of respondents (53%) visited the library more than once a week.

A high percentage of respondents (69.6%) visited the library for study and teaching.

The study also revealed that the degree of satisfaction with the library was moderate with a mean of (2.3456), on 5-point Likert scale.

No statistically significant difference in the degree of satisfaction was observed between the groups.

Based on these findings,the study provided a number of recommendations that would enhance user satisfaction, including the establishment of branch libraries, enriching the collectionand providing access to internet facilities..
