Abstract EN

This study represents an attempt to investigate the role of social media in the formation of political awareness among university students.

The study was conducted in the second semester of the academic year 2015/2016 on a sample of (1,484) students from various faculties at Al al-Bayt University.

This sample was pulled in an intentional and stratified way, so that it included an equal proportion of male and female students from scientific and humanitarian colleges.

The study adopted an evaluation questionnaire that included a series of questions about the role of social media on the formation of political awareness among these students, The data was processed using known statistical methods.

Results showed the great role of social media in the formation of political awareness of university students: Social media contributes to the identification of current topics in interior and public affairs and regional and international developments as well as the promotion of political participation and highlights the new political figures.

In summary, the study showed that university students use a variety of social media for various motives; the study also showed that the use of social media has its pros and cons.
