Abstract EN

This study aimed at investigating the relationship between health awareness and life satisfaction among senior Jordanian citizens reside in the capital city (Amman).

3400 health club participants (1845 males, 1555 females), (≥60 years old) were randomly selected for this study.

Participants who were members of health clubs between 2012&2014 voluntarily answered a life satisfaction and a health awareness questioners.

the results of this study indicated that the overall health awareness level were average for all participants.

However, health awareness varied based on gender showing better knowledge among female participants (39.35%) compared to (22.23%).

life satisfaction, on the other hand, was higher in male participants compared to females.

It was also noticeable that the level of life satisfaction in general was near or below average in our sample.

Our results indicated a significant positive correlation between health awareness and life satisfaction in both males and females of our sample.

Based on our alarming data regarding health awareness even among physically active Jordanian elderly we recommend adopting a national strategy for health promotion and awareness.

Healthy lifestyle and health awareness that take in consideration age and gender special needs may improve the quality of life and reduce the risk of age-related illness and injuries
