The study aims to identify the causes and circumstances that led Turkey to join NATO and to understand the nature of the Turkish role in the alliance before and after the arrival of the AK Party to power.

The main premise of the study is that there is a correlation between the changes in the nature Turkey's role in NATO and Turkey's internal and external variables.

The study recommends that there is a need for Turkey to be on the point of balance in its relations with East and West and to ensure its interests and preserve its global values
