This study aims to distinguish between theatrical directing as a craft, and directing depends on founding the professional basis of creativity and innovation.

The researchers sought to explore the role of theater director and his responsibilities, cultivation, thought, talent and his creative tools.

The study begins with a chronological review about the evolution of the process of directing.

Then it addressed the methodical framework of contemporary theater director.

On the practical side, the researchers examined and analyzed directing process of the play "Cross Words" written and directed by Mohamed Al-Rifai as a model for outstanding creative work.

The study concluded that theatrical directing is not a craft.

Creative director is an artist who has the talent, creativity, imagination, mental skills, and aesthetic experience.
