Abstract EN

The study focuses on examining the role of banking merger in the development of the financial performance of the Iraqi banking sector through an analytical study of a number of private Iraqi banks (Iraqi National Bank, the Iraqi National Bank of Babylon, the Iraqi National Union Bank).

The study problem focuses on the problems and risks that facing these banks such as accumulation of liquidity instead of utilizing them optimally and low profitability.

The aim of the study is to identify the role of banking merger as one of the mechanisms of development in the Iraqi banking sector, starting from a hypothesis, which assumes that the merging of banking has a role in developing the Iraqi banking sector ; besides improving the financial position of these merging banks.

The study adopted the descriptive analytical method in its theoretical and applied framework.

The study main findings indicated that the merging of banking allows them to obtain the necessary funding for their activities, as well as the expansion of investments, increasing profitability and reducing costs.

The research main recommendations indicated that banking merger of the surveyed banks is necessary for the formation of larger capital, more investments, hedging of risks, and taking advantage of the available opportunities.
