This study aimed to test the effect of environmental awareness on the behavior of consumers towards environmental friendly products on a sample of 195 professors from three eastern Algerian universities.

The study relied on the analytical descriptive method.

The data were collected from primary and secondary sources, and then analyzed using the SPSS program to test the study hypotheses.

The study main results include: environmental awareness affects environmental behavior through the cognitive dimension, but excluding the emotional dimension, although it is available at acceptable levels.

Furthermore, the demographic variables do not affect the level of environmental awareness with its two dimensions (the emotional and the cognitive) and actual behavior; while some of them affects the intent of environmental behavior.

The study main recommendations include the need to exploit the environmental awareness of the educated class to spread it in the university and in the community; as well as removing all obstacles including media, economic, organizational, and institutional constraints to turn this awareness into real environmental behavior
